PC1600 DDR SDRAM chip

PC1600 DDR is the lowest transfer rate in DDR SDRAM chips. It has a frequency of 100MHz, and is also known as DDR200, a measurement of its front side bus (FSB).

Memory may also be labeled by its dual in-line memory module, or DIMM. PC1600 DDR SDRAM exists as 172-pin MicroDIMM, 182-pin DIMM, and 200-pin SO-DIMM.

RAM must be compatible with the motherboard on the computer, however in some situations the chips may be "underclocked" or "overclocked" as a method of enabling them to work with the motherboard, or even with each other if the chips are different speeds. Aside from PC1600, other transfer speeds include:

Please note: a laptop will typically require memory designed specifically for it, while standard memory is generally made for use on a desktop PC.
